Sunday, 3 September 202313'sAshton BearsHome22-12Today's game was an early start for the teams. The early morning fog lifted just in time for kick off however it did leave the pitch a little moist. This league game, the first after the summer break, saw Judes play Ashton, a fixture they will repeat in the cup final next week. Both teams will no doubt report that they were not at their best today, with uncharacteristic mistakes and handling errors on both sides. Judes kicked the game off and started the game with a solid first defensive set. After several minutes of pressure in the Ashton half Judes finally got the breakthrough they deserved when Dylan Donnelly picked a loose ball up following good pressure in defence, the Ashton defence scrambled to bring him down only for Harley Bentham to crash over on the next tackle, Alfie English converted to make it 6-0.

Following this score Ashton rallied and scored a converted try if their own to make it 6-6 just before half time.

Ashton started the second half the more composed of the two teams and scored to make it 6-12.

Judes got into the second half and created some momentum and began to show real intent in defence, limiting Ashton to make only a few yards before kicking to Riley Atherton who solidly returned the kick, Jayden Crutchley on the next tackle burst the line and sprinted clear to score, Alfie English added the conversion to kevel the scores at 12-12.

Judes now seemingly in control of game received a penalty and Jayden Crutchley again burst the line and allowed Dylan Donnelly to collect the ball out wide to finish well. 16-12.

Some further solid defence from Judes forced the error from Ashton. Alfie English capitalised to score and convert his try to make it 22-12.

Ashton asked questions of the Judes defence until the final whistle but could not get the breakthrough such was the intent in the Judes defence.
Sunday, 3 September 2023Women's OARochdale MayfieldAway28 - 12Our ladies travelled over to Rochdale yesterday afternoon.
What a game it was, starting off with Rochdale taking the lead, our ladies were quick to respond. Rochdale fired back but once again our ladies levelled things up.
Judes defense was unreal all game, defending 5 sets on their own line without conceding!
With players playing positions they have never played before, every single lady gave it everything they had not only for theirselves but for their team mates. The spirit of the team really shone through and resulted in an excellent game of rugby, with the ladies getting the win.
Congratulations to Kerry and Charlotte our mother and daughter duo making their rugby debut.
Emma making her Judes debut and Keira making her St Judes comeback.
Well done to our try scorers, Georgia Mole, Anna Dennis and Dan Crothers, with Anna getting the conversions.
Massive well done to the whole team, you were amazing!
Sunday, 3 September 202310's - GoldsCadishead RhinosHome-Cadishead came down to Parsons Meadow for our first meeting in a league game, the last time we faced this team was one of our first ever matches at a Newbies festival many moons ago.

Cadishead started with the kick off, the long kick in foggy conditions resulted in a Judes error on our line, which Cadishead managed to capitalise on with an early score, which was converted.

Judes needed a response and that came in the form of some good attacking play, which resulted in a great effort from Joey, which was converted.

The following set had our defence trying to handle big and agile attackers. We weren’t able to contain the attack, with Cadishead scoring and converting to extend their lead. The visitors kept up the pressure and extended their lead with two more converted tries.

The kids made their way back into the game after some good play across the team to allow Zaine to fly through the defence to score a great try, which was converted.

The game got away from Judes after this, with Cadishead running in the remainder of the tries.

There were a number of good defensive efforts early in the sets throughout the game, special mention goes to Ronnie for a great effort that the opposition coaches highlighted and we had also had a try held up over the line when Jacob went over.

Dust ourselves off after today and back to training tomorrow to get ready for next weekends trip over to Hindley.

Sunday, 3 September 202310's - MaroonsAccrington WildcatsHome-We welcomed Accrington Wildcats down to the Meadow for our first match after the summer break.

The game started off with an Accrington kick off which was well returned by Judes, an excellent cross field kick from Jayden was captured by Harry to fly over for his first try, which was converted.

The return set from Accrington saw them use their size and strength to get up the field and despite some strong resistance from Judes they managed to get over for their opening score, which wasn’t converted.

The good play from Judes continued, with some effort to move the ball between the kids opening up space. This good work led to space for Jacob to use his pace to fly through the defence and score, which he duly converted.

Later in the half Accrington powered up the pitch again and grabbed another try, which wasn’t converted.

The second half began with a Judes kick off by Jayden, which was recovered by Judes after some quick thinking and fast feet. A quick play the ball allowed Jack to utilise his speed and fly into some space to grab a try, which he converted.

Some more good defending forced an error from Accrington and led to a turnover. The next play allowed Joshua to burst through a number of defenders, and cover most of the pitch, before grabbing a fantastic solo try, which he converted.

The next set showed some more good defence from Judes, with some quick thinking from Isaac recovering the ball. This led to a strong run from Jayden who took half the opposition with him to make some great distance up the pitch. A scoot from Isaac saw him burst through the line to grab another try, which was converted.

Accrington put some good plays together at this point and used their strengths as a team to head over the line for their final try of the match, which was converted.

With time running short, Judes put some more good passing moves, resulting in Oscar, who had kept the ball moving all game with strong carries and solid passing offloading to Harry to grab his second try of the game, which Oscar converted, taking us to full time.

A great match for both teams.
