18's Ashton bears Away 22-6
A tough battle today for the Jude’s U18s as they faced a strong Ashton side in the opening round of the Wigan Cup.
The boys started the game with real intent, matching Ashton set for set and showing huge determination in defence. Ashton struck first, finding space out wide, but their conversion attempt came back off the post to leave it 4-0.
Jude’s hit straight back with a well-worked team try finished by Ellis Corfield, with Aaron Briggs just pulling the kick wide. The lads showed great grit throughout the half and went into the break all square at 4-4.
The second half began positively, but a yellow card saw Jude’s reduced to 12 men for 10 minutes, testing the squad’s resilience. Shortly after, foul play from Ashton gifted Jude’s a penalty 35 metres out — Aaron Briggs calmly slotted it over to edge Jude’s ahead 6-4.
A few handling errors then put the pressure back on, and Ashton capitalised with a try next to the sticks, converting to take the lead 10-6. An unfortunate injury reshuffled the Jude’s pack, with Harley Lewis stepping up brilliantly in the middle, putting in a massive shift at prop.
Despite the effort, Ashton crossed twice more, converting one, to seal the game 22-6 in their favour.
The scoreline doesn’t reflect the heart and effort shown across the park — a real display of commitment, teamwork, and toughness from the lads.
Standout Performers:
• Harley Lewis – relentless effort up front, never took a backward step.
• Man of the Match: Dillon Abrum – outstanding work rate and impact throughout.
8's Ince Rose Bridge Blacks Away X-X
A small team of only 7 players was taken to Rose Bridge to give the kids some extra playing time. As always Rose Bridge gave a tough test but Judes more than stood up to the task and it turned out a really tight game which will have been a massive benefit for both teams.
8's Shevington Sharks Blues Away X-X
Last game of the season for Under 8s in what has been a year of real growth for our team both in the number of players and in terms of on field ability. This was a real team performance summed up by the whole team being awarded the coaches award, it’s nice to and the season on a positive note and the kids have more than earned their break.
14's Clock Face Miners Away 18 - 4
Wigan St Judes U14s finished their final away fixture of the season with a hard-fought 18–4 victory over Clock Face Miners.
It was a scrappy contest, with Jude’s guilty of giving away too much ball at times, forcing themselves into long defensive spells. Despite that, the lads stood up superbly, with several players putting in huge defensive shifts and racking up big tackle counts.
The opening try came from Billy Bridge, with Loui Skellon adding the conversion to make it 6–0.
Next, Tommy Shaw powered over to extend the lead, again converted by Loui for 12–0.
Clock Face hit back with a try of their own before Loui Skellon sealed the win with a try and conversion, rounding off an excellent individual performance.
