Sunday, 8 August 2021 | 11's | Ince Rose Bridge | Away | 40-28 | Despite the wet and windy conditions, St Judes put on a tough and gutsy performance to get the win against local rivals, Rose Bridge.
Although Rose Bridge took an early lead, Judes worked hard in both defence and attack to stay in the game. The hard graft from the forwards in the opening stages of the game was rewarded with a try from Judes' prop, Connor Briggs. Judes' second try also came off the back of hard work and strong running from the forwards who laid a platform for Layton Semmens to score out wide.
Tough tackling from Judes forced Rose Bridge into a number of handling errors and Judes were able to take the lead mid way through the first half with centre, Jack Fullerton, scoring off a perfectly timed pass from Layton Semmens.
Judes continued to pile on the pressure and a good kick from Layton Semmens led to a repeat set for Judes on the Rose Bridge line where Max Wakelin spotted a gap and went over from dummy half.
Judes went into half time with a ten-point lead and were able to extend this lead in the second half with a try from Ben Green thanks to great hands from half-back, Owen Gibson. Judes followed up by pounding the Rose Bridge line which was rewarded with Harvey Woolfenden's first try of the game.
However, Rose Bridge mounted a come back mid way through the second half as they scored two tries and reduced Judes' lead to just six points. Judes battled on and fought hard to get the win. Harvey Woolfenden used his strength to shrug off four or five of the Rose Bridge defenders and a great spin in the tackle saw him crash over to seal the win for Judes.
Layton Semmens was on great form with the boot, scoring six out seven conversion attempts. |
