Sunday, 26 September 202112's - MaroonsCrosfieldsAway38-6
The Under 12's maroons took on Crosfields away, this fixture was to be our last in division C before our move up to B next season. Been a great season so far and hopes were high for another good performance too.
Captain Jack Worthy won or lost the toss and the game was about to begin. A couple of errors by either side cancelling each other out until the bulldozer Zac ploughed his way over the line to give the Maroons the lead. Reliable Billy Whizz with the conversion. 6-0. Some great defence from Daniel and Mikey keeping our lead intact. Then some great interplay and Ellis was able to get his customary try, it was Sunday morning after all. Billy Baxter with another perfect kick over the posts. 12-0.
Some good defence again from all the lads, everyone putting their bodies on the line for the cause. The boys have really improved defensively these last few months and this bodes well for the future.
The good attacking play continued and some great interplay led to Harry receiving the ball close to the try line and he was able to go over to extend the Maroons lead. 16-0 at half time.
The second half started with both teams completing sets, a kick on the last by Crosfields and straight into Ellis’ hands 10 metres out, this often leads to one thing, running on the wing and then inside and through the Crosfields defence to go over. A great try to double his tally for the day. Billy converting to make it 22-0. Some great running by Jacob gaining valuable metres away from danger, then Thomas went over for another try for the season, he is in a rich vein of form this lad. 26-0
A couple of penalties given away and Crosfields were need to the goal line with 6 tackles remaining, they were able to go over to reduce the deficit. Kick converted 26-6.
Some great play again by Thomas and on the last tackle he kicked it over someone’s head and caught it himself, he then went over to score. That was fantastic individual play, always thinking outside the box. Billy converting 32-6. With just a few minutes left, the scoring wasn’t over Ellis was through again for a certain hat-trick try, he was over the line and he unselfishly passed to Mikey to go over. Billy converting yet again. 38-6 Final score.
Overall a solid performance from the boys, sets them up nicely for next weeks semi final against Thatto Heath. They all have to remember not to get too down on themselves after making a mistake. Just important all the boys work together to get the ball back as soon as possible without conceding points. Mistakes will happen. I make loads of mistakes doing this, my grammar and punctuation is appalling as you teachers will have probably noticed ha. Well done everyone!
Sunday, 26 September 202118'sRochdale MayfieldAway38-12This was the second game for us this week, Tuesday evening saw us take on Hindley at Judes that proved to be a tough match, both physically and mentally. Bit of a scrapy game, but one where we overcame adversity to run in 4 tries to 3, beating a strong Hindley side 22-14. Tries came from Rio, Declan, Darcy and Callum Palmer and of course converted from the trusty boot of Callum S.

Today we made the trip over to Rochdale Mayfield and although our attack improved today, we were a bit lack lustre in defence first half and the 2 quick turnaround games did take it’s toll on our energy levels. Although Judes started off a little shaky with their ball handling, it wasn’t long before Ryan started to run riot, showing some great supportive play. Logan set off on a marauding run looking sure to score, unluckily was caught just short, but still had the agility to spin and get the ball away in the tackle to keep the momentum going, were all willing you over that line Logan, it will come! The ever-supporting Ryan was on hand to take the ball and there’s no stopping him when he’s that close to the line. A second try came in quick succession, after a tremendous grubber from Tom H, which was collected cleanly by Daniel who scooted over to score in the corner. Judes refused to go down with the ball today and were brilliant at keeping the ball alive. Ball was shifted out to Tom H, who had an outstanding game at 7 and put in another accurate kick for Callum Palmer to scoop up and score his first, bringing it back to the sticks for an easier conversion for Cal. Rochdale did get over for 2 tries this half, Judes allowing them too many metres going forward, inviting them to attack our line and break our defence. Thankfully, we still went in at half time with a slender lead 12-16.

Judes came out stronger second half and Callum P was soon scoring his second after a high cross field kick from Cal was taken well and showed his strength to shake off the defence and score out wide. Much stronger defence this half to push Rochdale out going for the line, denying them any more points. A great burst from Ryan gets us three quarters of the way to the line and quick hands to our wing provides Darcy with the ball to fly over in the corner. Callum S another of our players red hot with the boot today nailed a fantastic conversion from over the side-line, then back in play put in the kick of the game for Ryan to chase. He won the foot race against his opposite fullback and as the ball bobbled about Josh came out of nowhere, showing good energy after playing the full game in the middles and tried to claim the try, but Ryan was having none of it and just got finger tips to it to claim his second. Ryan was determined to finish off in style in the dying seconds, producing one of his threatening runs and did get over the line, although he looked held up, he somehow managed to squirm over and get the ball down to record his hattrick, sealing a Man of the Match performance. Another tough conversion nailed by Callum S, saw Judes pull off another incredible win 12-38.

Judes are rocking at the moment and have really turned their season around in the last half a dozen games, playing with confidence and determination. Can’t praise all the lads enough for their effort to get us where we are and becoming one of the teams to beat!

Also great sportsmanship saw all players switching sides to help out the opposition who had found themselves with very low numbers. It is lovely to see this team grow each week.
