Sunday, 18 September 20229's - GoldsInce Rose BridgeHomeX XA very wet morning down at Judes brought us one of our last home matches of the season and Oscar's farewell appearance before he takes a break to get well again.

The match was tight early doors with Judes completing sets and forcing turnovers, something that we've rarely done against this opposition in previous matches. Our reverse match earlier this season was one sided with today being an example of the progress we've made in a short space of time.

We kept this going through to half time, with the visitors pulling away in the second half. Some great plays got the ball out wide for Leo to take advantage.

The effort from all our kids today something they need to be proud of. Their coach took the time to tell us how far we've come since we last played, which is a credit again to the efforts the kids have been putting in to training all through the season

Players of the match

Finley for some great strong tackling in the middle. Adding to this there was recognition for supporting his team mate when upset, a great example to set.

Ronnie for being in seemingly every tackle during the match and making some great carries.

Leo for another brave performance defending his position very well and being in the right place to grab some tries keeping us in the match

Oscar for a brave performance and some great carries with the ball.
Sunday, 18 September 20227'sLeyland and GolborneHomeNaOn a wet and chilly morning at Parsons Meadow Golborne and Leyland both came to visit.
With the outstanding numbers from the under 7s 3 games were set up.
All 3 teams gave everything and didn't let the downpour stop them.
St judes put up some very strong defence with usual tackling machines Theo Jones Harry Schofield and Josh Lynch leading the way. Defence was the main focal point for the 7s today and they all delivered. Special mention to Frankie Brook who impressed everyone on his debut with his line speed and commitment to making as many tackles as possible.
On every attack strong yards were made by every player with great footwork and evasion leading to a number of well worked team tries.
A first real weather test for the lads who passed with flying colours and left the field with a smile as always.
2 very tough opposition sides who were a credit to their clubs also.
Opposition man of the match awards

Sunday, 18 September 202218'sHalton Farnworth HornetsHome10-0Been a while since we’ve had to play in wet weather, so was not going to be pretty today. Judes started on the attack with Walshy trying his upmost to create space on the wing, but Halton’s defence remained resilient. Took a while for Judes to find their usual shape first half, but when they did a superb ball from Cal S, put Brogan into the line and he used his strength to burst through and backed himself to the whitewash to record our first try. Judes where soon attacking Halton’s line again after a strong break from Kenzie, getting the ball out to Brogan who again showed his strength with a great hand-off, managing to get the ball away to Walshy, but good cover defence from Halton denies us more points. Cal S tries something a little different to break the Halton line, kicking directly from the base of the scrum, Walshy showed great speed to get to the ball first, unfortunately to his frustration, the ref called him off-side. Good defence saw Judes start another set on half way and a well timed run from Cal P, saw him receive the ball at the perfect time to storm the line and break through showing speed to score under the sticks, making an easier conversion for Cal S to add a further 2 points. With only a minute left till half time, Judes had a decent 10-0 lead going into the break.

Judes came out second half and start to throw the ball around, unfortunately the final pass to our wing was a little strong, we back up with strong defence though, forcing Halton into touch. From the turnover, Joe took the ball up and suffered a crusher tackle, which saw himself and the Halton player leave the pitch for a 10 minute spell. Judes should have taken advantage here, but somehow we ended up defending 6 sets on our line, with Halton’s prop taking the ball over, but fantastic goal line defence held him up. Halton shifted the ball out to the wing, but a forced pass saw it go into touch and halted the relentless pressure on Judes line. Judes are caught off-side and put themselves right back under the pump, no-one would have blamed the lads if our defence cracked, but it didn’t we held firm and after a very defensive and feisty second half, with no tries scored, Judes took a very strong 10-0 win.

A pleasing win saw great strength and resilience from the lads to keep our opponents to nil. A game which saw a defensive face-off, with both sides not wanting to break, but Judes did enough first half to bring the win home. Try assists, great ball distribution and kicking saw Callum Silcock take the Man of the Match award. Frosty deserves a shout out having a fantastic game at hooker, buzzing round the ruck and put in numerous scoots from dummy half, also Tom, who in his words “I just want to run at people”, both causing real problems for the Halton line. Well done lads a great win and our defence was well and truly tested today.
Sunday, 18 September 202216'sWigan St PatricksAway30 - 20The day had finally arrived for our boys to take to the field for the North West Counties Youth Cup. The lads had trained well and the coaches were confident. We were going in underdogs having let St Pats get the best of us earlier on at their place this season, so we were sure our opposition were quietly confident. Two sets of lads, many of them friends and scholarship team mates, local Derby pride, last ever junior Cup...it was all set to be a thriller and it certainly didn't disappoint!

The game started how many of our games have started this season, with the opposition getting the first spoils! Two penalty calls walked St Pats up the field to see our boys defending on their own line. Pats dove over in the corner and slotted the kick over for good measure. 0-6
A few sets went by where, again, Judes were on the wrong end of multiple refs decisions before finally the lads managed to get possession back and break. Some lovely passing, linking Full Back Austin Daniel around the back saw the Pat's line scrambling to spread, Judes quickly took advantage of the overlap and sent Centre, George O’loughlin, over in the corner. Nathan Lowe taking a kick from touch but confidently slotting over the two. 6-6

Unfortunately the visitors had the last say of the first half and went in for two more unconverted tries, sending our boys in down at half time 6-14.
An incredibly frustrating first half for Judes, we were on the end of many penalties and offside shouts - The lads were getting frustrated with the constant defending. We must have had three attacking sets in the entire first half. Something had to change in the second!

Our boys started the second half exactly how we had hoped. More great passing saw George O’loughlin with the smallest of gaps and, as George often does, he managed to sqeeze through and plant the ball over the white wash. Again Nathan Lowe adding the two with the wind against him and loads of crowd pressure from the opposition side. 12-14.

We then found ourselves on the end of what we felt was a harsh 'knock on' decision, our boys felt it was a clear rip and were disappointed that St Pats were again on our line from questionable calls, Pats capitalised and went over again. Kick converted 12-20

Something clicked with our lads at this point and for the last 20 minutes they were faultless. Fierce defence and aggressive well worked attack saw our Judes lads go over for three more unanswered tries, superb individual efforts from Taylor Kerr and Nathan Lowe, dummying and dancing their way over the line for a try a piece and an outstanding long, wide ball from Nathan Lowe sending Ethan Roberts over in the corner.
Nathan had brought his kicking boots and slotted every kick over with ease today.
Final Score, Judes win 30-20

An incredible game and a deserved win for this team of lads who have worked so hard all season. Another cup for the cabinet for this phenomenal team.

Well done lads and well done Simon, Mike, Sean and Cass for your dedication to get these boys in shape and ready for today. Every session was worth it to see those faces at the end.

The boys worked incredibly hard today but the NWC Youth Committee named Taylor Kerr today's MOM. Well done T - your efforts this season have been second to none.

Big shout out to the pack today who grafted all game and controlled the St Patricks forwards. A superb effort.

Well done our boys. The cup came home at we said it would Rest now ready for Wednesday at Ashton Bears!
Sunday, 18 September 202215'sWoolstonAway12-6St Judes travelled over to Woolston on the back of a few good wins and with a score to settle after a disappointing defeat in the reverse fixture.
A pull up in the warm up led to a last min shuffle but the lads took it in their stride and took the lead early with Alfie Needham scoring wide after some well worked play..the conditions made the game a little scrappy at times but Judes defended as a unit throughout keeping out everything Woolston could throw at them before doubling their lead through a clever try from Ry Moore.
In the 2nd half a little indiscipline (and some dubious decisions) invited heavy Woolston pressure but Judes held firm with a near perfect defensive display only breached in the final minute.

Sunday, 18 September 202213's - MaroonsHalton FarnworthAway24-10Well the day had finally come, the 2nd division title was surely going to be decided. It was between Jude’s Maroons and Halton Farnworth Hornets. Not much had separated them throughout the season. The Maroons only defeat was at the hands of the Hornets so we were hoping there wouldn’t be another sting in the tail by full time in this one.
It was a nervous start for both sides with a few dropped balls, the pressure was understandable though, a lot was at stake. Some good runs as always from Edwin, Zac and Joel helped the Maroons settle with a some good metres made. Defensively some big hits by Harry and Jack making sure Halton did not progress forward as well as they’d like.
Not for the first time this season, the ball landed in the hands of Ellis Corfield, he was in full flow yet again and was able to go over in the corner. A much needed try at the perfect time to settle some nerves. With windy conditions, conversions from the edge were going to be tough all day, Harley missing from the left hand side. 4-0.
This seemed to ignite a spark in Halton, a couple of dubious piggy backed penalties and they were just a few metres from the Maroons line. Some resilient defence on the line with many bodies being put on the line but Halton were able to go over. Conversion made. 4-6.
This felt like it was going to be the topsy-turvy game we were all expecting. Titles are rarely won easily without having some moments where you have to pick yourselves up off the floor.
The Maroons heads had not gone down and they were back on the attack again, Harley and Connor making some great progress up the pitch, the ball eventually finding its way to Thomas who when in sight of the try line very rarely doesn’t go over and he did with his usual aplomb. Harley with the conversion and Jude’s were 10-6 up at half time. Just twenty minutes away from glory.
The second half started as the first one finished with Judes on the attack. Penalties this time got the Maroons up the field. Harry to Thomas to Jack Worthy and the machine went over underneath the sticks. Billy with the conversion to extend Maroons lead to 16-6.
The shackles were now off and it was now wave after wave of Judes pressure, the ball was played to the left edge and Harry went over in the corner. A tricky conversion missed 20-6.
Some good defence from Kaden and also Mikey keeping Halton down to just the 6 points. Jude’s were turning the screw and were on the attack again, Thomas going over in the corner to seal the win. A little flurry by Halton and they scored nicely on the left edge but it was too little too late.
Final score Halton Farnorth 10 Judes Maroons 24 and the Maroons have another trophy.
I must admit I was too engrossed in the match today to make any sort of notes so I do apologise if most of that was nonsense ha.
I want to thank the coaches, players and everyone behind the scenes for a fantastic season. Also to Kerry who does a fab job missing most of watching her own lad to take pictures of the kids for us. I also want to thank the parents as without them the kids wouldn’t be able to get to and from the training and the matches so well done everyone, a real team effort. Up the Judes!

Sunday, 18 September 202210's - MaroonsLeigh MinersAway6 - 36Judes went into the fixture full of confidence after beating miners just 6 weeks ago but it was a tough morrning against a clinical Leigh side.

Miners took an early 12-0 lead in terrible conditions and never looked back.

Judes showed character and kept going until the end but unfortunately it wasn't their day

Outstanding perfomer for Judes was undoubtedly Lola Turner who picked up 3 awards. Player of the match, opposition player of the match and top tackler. An excellent effort

Special mention to Kian Halliwell who can also be proud of his efforts as his continued make good yards throughout the game and was unlucky to have 3 tries disallowed

Try scorer - Tommy Gleeson
Conversion - Charlie Hibbert

Sunday, 18 September 20229's - MaroonsFarnworth HornetsHome8-28Good game. Team were undeafed and it should. Very disapplined and good tacklers. They took the lead but with less players and constant defending they won the game. We did judes proud keeping them out for 20 minutes straight with defending on the line but it tooks its toll. Well done maroons. Farnoworth coaches were very respectful and although the score line didnt show it. It was a hard fought game. #maroons
