At the 2006 Challenge Cup Final at Twickenham between St Helens and Huddersfield Giants, A new Lance Todd Trophy record was set when Saints scrum half Sean Long took the honour for the Third time in a glittering career.
A small band of players have managed the feat twice, but three times looks set to stand for a long while.
Sean started his playing career at the age of seven, playing in the under nines at St Judes, under the watchful eye of his dad Bernard who was coaching the side. He progressed through to the under sixteen’s picking up practically every trophy available, and even played for Lancashire Under elevens at the age of nine, taking the man of the match award. He gained international honours with England schoolboys at sixteen, before turning professional and the rest, as they say, is history.
