|Judes 7-0 Crossfields|
Finally a home game! It was nice to play at home this week after all the away fixtures we have had. Logan Johnson, one of our smallest players on the team was captain, had to shake hands with Crossfields captain, who in my opinion was one of the tallest u9s I’ve seen, was quite an amusing start to the game.
From the start Judes were on the attack, but failed to go over due to our only knock-on of the game. Wasn’t long before Judes hard work paid off and Harvey Makin after strong running powered over for his first try. With Crossfields on the attack, Judes were unable to clamp the ball and Crossfields were allowed to keep off-loading the ball, but Judes defence was just too strong to let Crossfields break through, before Cameron Lowe finally put Crossfields into touch. Good strong running up the middle from Callum Silcock and a lovely off-load from Brad Haslam to Harvey Makin, put Judes in a great position and Tom Hart received the ball and literally danced round the Crossfields defenders to go over for his first in the corner. Back on the defensive Judes forced Crossfields back, a brilliant tackle from Ryan Wood just smashed Crossfields biggest player.
Up step Tom Hart again who was really hungry for the try-line today, on the very first play he sped off, beating all the Crossfields defenders and blazed down the wing to go over for his second. More aggressive defence on show from Judes smashing Crossfields on every attack, then on came Big Reece Stanton who made a tackle and had 2 Crossfields players taken off the pitch – ouch!! Judes back on the attack, Ben Freeman fed a great ball to Harvey Makin who again powered through to score his second of the game. Crossfields turn to attack, but Kian Barry did a crunching tackle to force a knock-on from Crossfields and on the turnover followed this up with a great off-load for Ryan Wood to scoot over for his first try, ending a strong first half 5-0.
Judes get the second half underway again in attacking mode. Kalan The Bulldozer Devine who had been running hard received the ball and battered his way over the line with defenders clinging onto him. There ain’t no stopping the Bulldozer from that range! Again Crossfields were allowed to off-load the ball, but to no avail as our relentless defence, just pushed Crossfields back. Judes were almost immediately over the whitewash again with Big Reece Stanton, he tried his best to get over, but Crossfields defence held firm and was held just short. It only delayed the inevitable as Lewis Pinder did a good angled run to go over in the corner. Crossfields replied with a good attacking stint, but a try saving tackle from Daniel Johnson forced the Crossfields player into touch and kept the score sheet clean.
This last period of the game saw Judes score on almost every set. The first coming from Lewis Pinder who looked like he was covered, but managed to break the tackle to go over for his second in quick succession. A superb dummy from Logan Johnson fed the ball to Kalan The Bulldozer Devine who gritted his teeth and made brilliant yards up the middle. Andrew Bretherton then off-loaded the ball to James Richardson who went over on the wing for his first try. Crossfields again tried to come back on the attack, but did get close after a penalty for off-side, but awesome defence yet again, defending 3 attacking plays on Judes line to deny Crossfields scoring.
Our next attack, a brilliant angled run from half way by Ryan Wood saw him go in the left hand corner for his second of the game. The next set showcased Judes brilliant passing ability with the ball travelling from left to right, then back again until Kian Barry fed Ryan Wood who fired in for his hatrick. This ended the game 11-0 to Judes.
Judes put in a solid performance today, they were excellent in attack and aggressive in defence. Even though we had to rotate 17 players, I thought today was a fantastic team effort and I would also like to mention our new boys Josh Clarke & Callum Marland who slotted in well and contributed to our winning performance. It was a dominant confident win on home soil and very impressive not allowing Crossfields over the line. Great effort, well done lads and keep up the hard work.
