WIGAN ST JUDES - Under 15'S |
| 28th March 2010 |
| Pilkingtons Under 15’s 18- 20 St Judes Under 15’s Wigan Warriors face an important trip to St Helens on Good Friday and St Judes showed them how it’s done against the old enemy with a narrow success against one of their bogey sides. A swirling wind made running rugby difficult on a bright morning, but St Judes made a positive start by forcing an early error and a Luke Farrow chip near the line was collected by Josh Rooney to make it 4-0 to the visitors. Some stern defending held Pilks out soon after and Judes went back on the offensive soon after when some aggressive work on the left ended with Dec O’Neil scooting sharply from dummy half before throwing in two sidesteps for an excellent individual score. A Farrow conversion took Judes 8-0 ahead, but any notion that this would be a routine day at the office was blown away as Pilks struck back with two good converted scores to lead 12-8 at the interval. However, Judes had the wind at their backs in the second half. Overall they didn’t make full use of it, but Rooney hit the line hard for two more converted scores and, despite some basic errors which helped the home side reduce the deficit to 20-18, the win was well deserved and more decisive than the final score suggests. Rooney turned in a performance which combined strength and discipline, while Brandon Bradshaw was calm and composed throughout under a series of testing kicks and Lewis Armstrong was also lively. All the forwards played their role in keeping the Pilks pack quiet up the middle, but Dec O’Neil deserves special mention for a livewire effort and a very well taken score in the corner. And there ends another season of hard work, ups and downs and good progress overall. Many thanks to the lads for all their effort, coaches for all their hard work and the parents for their loyal support through thick, thin and very thin. The presentation takes place on Saturday May 1st. See you all there. |
