Leigh Miners RangersHome14 - 6
Today was our first play-off game backing up from that Final last week, was always going to be a tough ask and Judes found themselves in an arm wrestle from the off. Judes had to be patient and play out their sets, keep building pressure and the points would come, which they did courtesy of Junior Nsemba, who again was on fire today. He is a hard lad to stop when he gets on a run and he barraged his way through the defence to score our first points at the side of the sticks. Callum Silcock converted and put us in the lead 6-0.

Judes showed some excellent defence in the first half and forced a few errors, unfortunately, we had quite a few knock-ons of our own and blew a couple of chances to increase our score. Judes did keep the pressure on and a good deep kick from Callum forced Leigh to clear their lines into touch. This gave us a scrum deep in Miners half and our forwards battered their line, Miners held strong, but Harvey Makin bursts onto a ball and runs straight into the thick of the Leigh defenders and somehow still manages to ground the ball! With very little time left on the clock, Judes were in the lead 10-0, but Leigh get a late penalty, so hearts in mouth time, but some great Judes defence hold out to keep them score-less till the half-time whistle.

Judes get the second half underway and at the end of their set kick long and Judes knock-on gifting them territory. Judes were equal to the test though and some brilliant defence didn’t let them trouble our line at all. Judes get the ball back and after a good drive from Harvey and lovely inside ball to Alfie Whittle, he picked his spot and ran. By-passing multiple defenders, had enough speed to go round the fullback and score out wide. Judes created lots of further chances for the remainder of the second half, but execution just let them down, a couple of wrong choices and some great defence from Miners, prevented any further points. Junior charges for the line again and looks sure to score his second, but Leigh do just enough to keep him out. Leigh put in a booming kick on their return set, unfortunately the ball comes loose and Leigh pounce to start another attacking set and were strong enough to build to the line and score late on. A converted try saw the score 14-6, fortunately Judes were far enough in the lead to know the game was won. After trading sets, thankfully the final whistle came and brought the end to a really tough game.

Judes did just enough today to secure a win with a number of players missing and the mental exhaustion of the cup final. It was a well matched game, but it was amazing to see the players come together and put in such a great effort.

Today’s man of the match chosen by Leigh Miners, went to Lewis Pinder who directed our troupes round the park and put in some great runs from acting half. Always puts in a solid performance, but copped one for his cause today, finishing the game with bandages up his nose to stem the bleeding!

Match Report

Wigan St.Judes v West Bank

Today Judes hosted West Bank at the Meadow and what a match it was set to be .
Judes wanted the win today after being beaten on Golden Point in Lancs cup Semi final by West Bank and the whole team were up for it .
1st half saw a good few handling errors from both sides as the grass was wet and the ball slippy but Judes and West Bank backed up their errors with some great defensive plays .
End to end stuff for a while before Judes took 1st blood .
Judes kept the pressure on with great defence and some strong runs from forwards and backs alike which resulted in Judes scoring again with both tries converted .
Judes then struggled for a while in defence and attack which led to West Bank scoring a try which was converted
Halftime came and went but all Judes wanted was the win . West Bank fought back hard in the 2nd half and their hard work paid off when they crossed for their 2nd try which was swiftly converted.
Judes not to be defeated had a good few sets defending their own line before they made a break and scored the final try of the match .
This took Judes 4 points in front and that's how the scores stayed .
All in all a great determined game from Judes but both sides gave it their all , well done Judes !!

Thatto HeathAway4-0
Jude’s 11s travelled the short distance in a early ko at Thatto this morning and didn’t disappoint in tough conditions. Thatto very rarely threatened Jude’s line and defence today won the game. Talk in the changing room was about completion and errors and fair play to the lads they delivered. First half finished 0-0.
2nd half the lads turned it on and defensive pressure finally cracked the spirit of Thatto and off the back of there Error Jude’s scored. A zero for the coaches is exactly what was asked. Well done all. Keep it up
Game finished 0-4 Jude’s

CrosfieldsAway13-5
Wigan St Judes U8’s Golds V Crossfields Cobras. Away
St Judes Golds went to a rainy Warrington for the first away match of this season. Crossfields started well with a try down the wing in the first set. Judes returned with Declan Fairhurst running strong to score the first try for the Golds. Crossfields replied straight away with a try in the corner. Judes again replied with a strong run from Zak Lushchan where he scored the try. Again, Judes let Crossfields straight back into it with them scoring a try in the corner. Good foot work from Jayden King, sent him souring down the middle to score his first try of the match. Judes defended well to keep the Cobras out for a full set. Toby Hutchinson powered his way through, handing off and pumping his strong legs to get him over the line to score his first try of the match. Crossfields followed by a strong running attack to score in the corner.
Judes did well to get themselves up the field but missed out on a try by being tackled in touch millimetres from the try line. Crossfields ran well scoring in the corner putting them in front, before Jayden King zoomed in and out using his fantastic footwork to score his second try of the game. Judes held their own for the next set with some excellent defence. Zak Lushchan scoring the next try before Judes let Crossfields in for 2 more tries.
Judes attack was beginning to step up with Will Cobley scoring a full length try after dancing around the Crossfield defence. Again Judes defended well keeping the Cobras out, then a repeat try from Will Cobley putting his name on the score sheet yet again. Crossfields worked hard to score 3 tries before an excellent offload from Jayden Johnstone to Jayden King who was backing up in the distance to go over for his hattrick. Crossfields took us up the field but we unable to score, meaning the Judes team had to work extra hard to get anywhere near the try line. Alex Griffiths made some good metres, enough to send Jayden King over for his fourth try of the day. Crossfields hit back with two more tries, before Jayden Johnstone powered over the line. Thomas Atherton made some massive tackles to stop the Cobras running to the line. Judes defended well yet again. Judes attacked well with Will Cobley dancing his way around the defenders to score out wide.
The scoring was concluded with a try from Toby Hutchinson who powered through and although he was stopped by 6/7 players he was determined to get the ball down .
An excellent game of rugby from both teams, a performance outstanding from the Judes U8’s Golds.

*Newbies

A top drawer Newbies league debut for our team today. They played against Ashton Bears, which was a replay of our last match at the Newbies festival from the week before.

All of the team did really well, got involved and did everything they were asked. A competitive game throughout with lots of tackling and willingness to run with the ball with the opposition closing in. Really proud of all of them!
