Barrow IslandAway32-6
St Jude’s 9 match unbeaten run in the NCL Div 2 came to an end Away at Barrow Island as they went down 32-6. St Jude’s below par performance was littered with mistakes a very poor completion Rate and a very heavy penalty count against with some poor refereeing, at one point in the game Jude’s were 18 nil down. Man of the Match Gavin Rodden worked hard to fire up Jude’s and Tom Owen was on hand with some strong carries. Once again Chris Rowe was right up there with 28 tackles and Full Back Baz Rothwell had another solid game at the back.

ChorleyAway28-16
This week’s game saw Judes make the trip to Chorley, it was a semi final and no more motivation was needed. From the very start we knew we had to be squeaky clean, it was very stop start. But first blood went to Judes after 2 penalties, Jake sold the Chorley defence a dummy and went over for the first points. Chorley then hit back through penalties of their own to over down our right. A theme was appearing, Judes next try came off the back of yet more penalties with Declan bursting through and continuing his rich vain of scoring form. By this point Chorley has gone down to 11 men and Judes capitalised well. Chorley also crossed before half time to take the score to 10-12. The second half started a little bit better with both sides trading sets and managing to get some kicks in, before Chorley crosses again to take the lead. That had the boys fired up and they marched themselves back up field with good attacking push for Logan to place a peach of a pass to send Sam crashing over. That was it, the team had the bit between their teeth and could sense victory. In the next set, Logan created space down the left again with a face ball to Kian who went over on the edge. The last try went to Sam under the sticks with Logan again turning to provide. Brilliant outcome after a very disrupted game, on to the final now!

Tries - Jake Liptrot, Declan Gregory, Kian Dainty, Sam Reddy 2
Conversions - Leon Trafford 4

Awards - Man of the Match - Sam Reddy, absolutely outstanding from full back today, chimed in when needed and brick wall defence!
Captain’s Choice - Callum Moffitt, what a brilliantly solid performance, don’t know how some players get up from the power of his tackles.
Most Improved - Kian Dainty, settled in to the team really well and his confidence is growing week on week!

Bank Quay BullsHome44-12
Final Score: Judes 44 v Bank Quay Bulls 12

This was our first encounter with Bank Quay this season and what a game to meet in a Cup Semi Final. Judes were very clinical first half and had a good completion rate. On only the second set Junior Nsemba made a break through on half way, opened his legs and set off, he didn’t need the support from his team mate Ryan, as he had enough pace to go himself and score under the sticks. Judes were fielding everything that the Bulls threw at them and even though we were trapped in-goal and forced to drop out, our defence stood firm. Judes were just chewing up the metres in attack and a great set found them only 10 out. Reece Stanton got his hands on the ball and spotted a gap open up and you can’t afford to give this lad an inch as he will punish you, which is exactly what he did, even getting back up and grounding the ball under the sticks, for a better kick for our super goal kicker Callum Silcock.

Judes were relentless looking to score in every set and a great offload from Lewis to Callum, who broke the line and set off, awesome support play from Junior Nsemba who bounces over for his second of the half. The very next set saw the ball swept out to our left edge and Logan dived over, only to be disallowed for a forward pass. The yards our forwards made today was unbelievable and Reece Stanton was scoring his second after getting the ball and just swatting the defender out of the way to get over the try line. Another great break by Junior, who was just carving up the metres and causing the Bulls some real problems. Harvey also made an awesome break and set off running almost 40 metres before the fullback got to him. The ball was played to Lewis Pinder, who has a great eye for the try and line and and spied the defence out of position to scoot over and score right before half time. With Callum Silcock converting Judes virtually had this game in the bag at 28-0.

The second half got underway with Bank Quay attacking our line and diving for the corner, but our defence did just enough to deny them scoring. From defence to attack and a great individual effort from Ryan Wood who has elusive footwork at pace to break any defence and score. Almost immediately Ryan was heading for the line again, but was brought down within inches of the whitewash and denied. From this point Judes seemed to lose a bit of shape and Bank Quay took full advantage by chipping over our defensive line and scoring. Judes gave a few penalties away and Bank Quay kick for touch, thankfully it didn’t quite make it and was taken well by James and returned. Ball goes out to Junior Nsemba and he again does what he’s done all game and motors off to the line to score his hatrick. Judes again make a mistake in the next set and Bulls capitalise by breaking through to score their second. A lovely break from Callum Silcock, who was involved twice in this try, firstly setting the platform, then finishing off by spotting the smallest of gaps to shoot through and score and after converting his own try put us 44-8 up. Bank Quay attacked in the final minutes of the game and again chip over, but James was up to the challenge. Sadly Judes knock-on and surrender the ball in a dangerous position, the Bulls chip over on the final whistle to catch us unawares, collect and score another 4 points, which did take the shine off the end of the game a little. We did comfortably win though 44-12 and are on our way to the Final!

An outstanding performance from Judes first half with some brilliant tries across the park and great kicking game. Second half we tended to force the pass and gave away to many penalties, but the lads could be excused for switching off slightly with such a healthy lead. Well done lads, a huge win to take us into the Lancashire Cup Final!

Today’s man of the match chosen by Bank Quay, went to Junior Nsemba who ran his blood to water today, there was no stopping him with ball in hand. It shows how outstanding he was in attack, as he also managed a hatrick of tries!

Judes Lancashire Cup dream came to an end at the hands of Saddleworth, going down 22-10 in the Semi Final. Despite a gutsy effort and a lack of bodies after some early injuries, Judes didn’t have enough to get themselves into a first Lancashire Cup Final.

ROCHDALE MAYFIELD U13SHome52-0

WIGAN ST JUDES GOLDS 52 ROCHDALE MAYFIELD MUSTANGS 0 (HOME)

Today the lads welcomed down Rochdale Mayfield for their sixth league game of the season We were hoping that our boys would turn out strong after last week’s very close game and make today’s match much easier for themselves.
The lads did just that and put on a disciplined and well executed performance. Working hard for one another and producing an overwhelmingly strong defensive display, managing to keep their opponents from taking any points at The Meadow today.

The lads found themselves in front very quickly, from kick off the Judes hunted down the ball, tackling aggressively and not letting the Rochdale pack move up field. A long kick was needed from our opponents, but full back Austin Daniel was ready, and his return had Judes just 30 metres out on their first tackle. A few hard drives were soaked up by Mayfield before great hands from Judes saw the ball spread wide and The Golds strong Second Rower, Keegan Boyd, muscled his way through right in the corner. Corey Roden’s kick bouncing the wrong way off the posts 4-0
Another quick try followed as Judes pushed straight back down field from the kick off, good yards from Keegan Boyd and Jake Hare put us in great field position early in the set. Great hands from hooker Tom Hill and Oliver Wright saw a well-timed pass out to big centre, Malachi Leo Price who stormed through to score under the sticks. Corey adding the extras 10-0
Four good sets went by with both squads holding each other out before Mayfield were awarded a penalty in their own half, they chose to kick long but the kick sailed just short of the touchline with an ever-ready Austin Daniel stood underneath it and returning it with great pace and agility. A hard drive from Oliver Wright followed by a quick scoot from Malachi saw the big man go over for his second and Judes third. Corey adding the two 16-0
A few silly penalties saw Mayfield piggy backed up field but our lads held strong and with superb line speed and hard, controlled hits, they managed to keep Mayfield at bay on their own line. From the turnover the lads drove the ball hard before Corey Roden hit Keegan Boyd with a perfect flat pass, Keegan flew down the wing untouched and scored his second under the sticks. Corey converting 22-0
Judes went straight back over following the restart. Keegan Mobey taking the ball from the air and hitting Jake Hare who made great yards before Golds Captain, Oliver Wright, scooted quickly and smashed through the defensive line to bag himself a well-earned try. Corey kicking with ease 28-0
Malachi Price sealed his hattrick from the restart with fast hands from Keegan Mobey and Oliver Wright sending Malachi down the right wing for his third of the match, Corey converting to send us in at half time 34 nil up.
The first half was full of hard hits, well timed passing and great runs. Corey Roden had pulled off some incredible shots with Elton Paplekaj and Oliver Wright also hitting the opponents like a train. We made lots of positional changes at half time to allow some players a chance in different areas of the field. We hoped this would not ruin our line speed of defensive efforts and, credit to them, they played to the end to ensure the second half was as good as the first.

The second half started in the perfect way with our newest recruit, lightening fast winger, Tom Anderson, receiving a perfectly timed pass from Taylor Kerr and sending him flying down his wing from in his own half. Tom shrugged off three defenders to score under the sticks. An amazing first try for Tom. Corey adding the extras 40-0
Around ten minutes passed where both teams played some great rugby but just didn’t manage to go over. Mason Fillingham getting Judes out of trouble on their own line intercepting a pass and preventing what looked like a certain try. Taylor Kerr putting in tackle after tackle and playing out of his skin all over the field.
But, breaking the dry spell, Scrum Half Corey Roden made good yards through the middle, throwing two perfect dummies to break the line. Great support play from Luis Houghton saw Corey pop the ball to him at the final moment for Luis to go and score under the sticks. Great play from both. Corey adding the two 46-0
Our final try came from Keegan Boyd just minutes from the end. Scooting from our own 20 metre line he went the length of the field passing some weary Rochdale defenders to go over unchallenged under the sticks and seal his hattrick. Corey converting 52-0
The boys produced some excellent rugby today. Working hard for each other and communicating well throughout. Amazing tackle counts from Corey Roden, Luis Houghton and Taylor Kerr. Great work at the back from Austin Daniel and an all-round great display of line speed and fast hands. The lads have a well-deserved week off next week before meeting Mayfield again the week after.
We stay top of the table with four games to go before Summer break and remain undefeated in the league so far.

Ashton Bears v Judes

Today Judes traveled the short distance to Ashton Bears with the aim of keeping their undefeated record intact, the lads seemed in a confident mood from the start .
K.O came and both sides looked as if they wanted the win , going end to end before a great weighted kick got Judes the lead .
From there Judes seemed to fall asleep , finding it hard to read Ashton plays and stop the Ashton go forward . Judes didn't help themselves giving away silly penalties for high shots and turning the ball over in their own half by knocking on .
Ashton took full advantage and scored 2 unanswered tries but only 1 converted. Ashton started to use the ball well running it hard and moving it across the line with ease . Judes defence was on the back foot for the rest of the 1st half .
2nd half came and Judes went back out with determination not to let this slip away . Judes started to play like everyone knows they can, a little more fluid and a little more at ease . Defence muscled up and did a great job on the Ashton attacking line. Still going end to end but Jude looked a little more in control.
2 unanswered tries from Judes saw them take the lead and with time running out Judes were defending it with vigor.
In the end Judes took the win but Ashton gave them probably the best game they have had all season , Judes needed to be tested and Ashton did that .
A big thanks to Ashton coaches and team for their hospitality this morning.
