A very youthful St Judes NWML side were gallent 16-38 losers to North Wales Crusaders Reserves in their Division 4 season opener at Parsons meadow.

Eight of last years under 18s now form the backbone of the new look NWML team and there were certainly enough positives throughout the game to indicate that this young side will more than hold their own throughout this seasons campaign.
North Wales got off to the better start and led St Judes 0-12 before replies from Nathan Moore and Ben Fisher, brought the scoreline to 10-12. A North Wales try on the stroke of half time saw the visitors go in at the break leading 12-18
The second half did look on paper that it had been heavily dominated by the Welsh side as they went on to register a further 4 tries with a solitary St Judes reply from Luke Melling. This did however give an untrue reflection of the game as the St Judes side had worked tirelessly hard and competed throughout and but for a series of unforced errors, the score line should and could have been a lot closer.
Final score St Judes 16-38 North Wales.
Best for Judes were Luke Melling, Ben Fisher, Danny Clayton, and Jack Barnes.

West Bank v Wigan St.Judes

Today Judes traveled to West Bank for their 1st game of the season.
Judes coming off the back of a great 2019 but an unsettled off season looked nervous and out of sorts. This is the 1st time on a pitch due to the weather of past weeks .
1st half saw West Bank score numerous trys and Judes had no answer , some great individual tackles but the defensive line was all at sea. Some great individual runs but not as a team made it easy for West Bank to defend.
2nd half saw Judes come out with more response, a little better in their line speed and holding West Bank a bit more than the 1st half.
Judes were just not strong enough today which saw West Bank take the win 28-0 .
Hats off to West Bank who played some great rugby .
Sun, 8 Mar 2020Under 14's - MaroonsOldham St AnnesAway30 - 24Oldham St Annes 24 v Wigan St Judes 30

Today saw us travel up the M62 to St Annes.
A team we have only played once a few years ago.

The first half saw us start off quick with a try from JBL but St Annes leveled it a 6-6 after some luck from a kick. Judes then took hold of the half with a try from Liam Grant ( who had to leave the pitch shortly after due to injury). There soon followed another try from JBL, then Jack Doran sent Judes into a commanding lead at the break with the score 6 - 20.

The second half saw Judes put to the sword after debutant Lewis Johnson's try stretch the lead to 6 - 24 with St Annes four tries (luckily only one was converted). With the score at 24 - 24 at the final whistle, the game went into extra time. Lewis Banks gave Judes a 2 point lead after converting a penalty kick, then from the restart an early contender for try of the season from Alex Birch going all the way from the 20 yard line to go over in the corner to give Judes the win!

For our first run out of the season we did well but we must cut out the errors and giving away silly penalties. Onwards and upwards!!

Award winners this week are : -

Man of the match - Jack Buono-Lester

Parents man of the match - Alex Birch

Coaches Award - Brett Doran
Sun, 8 Mar 2020Under 7's - GoldsChorley PanthersHome32 20A brilliant morning of rugby today, both teams played brilliantly well.

Concentration is something we've spent time on in training and its paid dividends today. Through the game we've completed sets and forced a turnover 3 separate times in a match for the first time. Excellent defensive work all round.

One of the coaches from Chorley mentioned after the game that it was one of the best performances he had seen at our age group and that we're a credit to our club which pretty much sums it all up today.

Player of the match today was Ronnie but it could honestly have been any of the players today we're really proud of them all.
Sun, 8 Mar 2020Under 7's - MaroonsWesthoughton lionsAway4- 32Good 1st game of the season. Alot of good points to take away and some points to focus on in training. Westhoughton were organised and strong and that proved to be the difference. We needed to be stronger in defence and because we werent.we were punished. Player of the match was archie wood for scoring the only try.

Sun, 8 Mar 2020Under 9's - GoldsLeyland WarriorsHome32-4Wigan St Judes U9’s Golds Match Report.
Wigan St Judes U9’s Golds welcomed Leyland Warriors to the Meadow on what was holding out to be a lovely sunny Sunday. New season, New rules!!!
The Golds started the game with a try straight from KO from Jayden King.
Leyland played a really good set, before the turnover back to Gold’s. Leyland were massive on defence, pushing Gold’s into touch, retrieving the ball for themselves. Leyland played another good set, the turnover came back to Judes who played some excellent rugby, driving up the field, getting the ball to Jack Stanton who powered his way through the defence to score a try.
Leyland fought back with another good set of 6 before Jayden King went the full length of the field for his second try of the game. Again, Leyland put in some good attack taking Judes all the way to the Leyland try line. Judes next set saw Zak Lushchan going over the whitewash, a knock on from Leyland saw Jamie Kelly with his fast feet to the try line. Judes did well defending their line before another try from Jayden King. Judes played a strong part in pushing Leyland into touch meaning that it was Judes ball, resulting in a fly down the wing from Jayden king scoring yet another try.
The next set Leyland fought so hard to get to their try line, missing out by a couple of metres on scoring. Judes had the ball back, some excellent off loads sent Zak Lushchan over for his second of the match. Again, the Leyland team never let their heads bow, pushed their way right near the try line, just as their set was up. Jayden King went over for his 5th try of the game.
Judes again pushed Leyland into touch to get the ball back, this time playing up the middle then passing out to Will Cobley who went over for a try. Another set for Leyland, turned over to Judes who made some excellent passes, using his power and pumping his legs sent Toby Hutchinson over for a try. Leyland played really well in attack. The last play of the day was Judes who sent Zak Lushchan over for his hat trick.
Try scorers:
Jayden King 5, Zak Lushchan 3, Jack Stanton, Will Cobley, Jamie Kelly & Toby Hutchinson.
Awards:
MOM – Jamie Kelly.
