Today was going to be far from pretty, with the conditions and a heavy pitch under foot, but Judes played an awesome game first half, showing patience and building pressure. Judes got on a roll and produced 3 great tries firstly on the right wing with a great run from Nathan and pass to McKenzie Davies to scoot over in the corner, he said he was going to score today and he did! Our 2nd try came on the next set and was lovely hands down the line to create the overlap for Logan Johnson to dive in the opposite corner. Our third of the half came from a well timed jink in the line from Regan Sumner who looked covered heading for the corner, but somehow turned himself out of the tackle and plonked the ball down. Judes were relentless in this half and Miners struggled to control our attack, as we almost scored a forth on the wing, only for defenders to force us over the side-line. Strong defence from Judes finishes off the first half by forcing the knock-on, as the Referee blows his whistle for half time.

Not sure what happened to Judes or whether playing up hill second half disrupted us, but Judes looked a different side to the first and Leigh came out bullish. They were soon over the whitewash after a high kick that took a wicked ricochet off our full back and bounced into touch for a Miners scrum close to our line, which gave them the territory to put a move on from the base of the scrum, scoring in the corner and kicking a great conversion from touch. This second half was going to be nail-biting, as although we’d scored 3 times, there was only 6 points in it. A few mistakes by Judes fuels Miners attack, but equally great defence denies them any more points, which was valuable considering we couldn’t get over that try-line either. A great deep kick from Callum, who kicked us out of trouble a few times today, asked Miners to come at us. All those great metres though were given away from an offside call and marched Leigh up the pitch. Resolute defence though again from Judes and Miners are forced to kick on the last, which bobbled about in the in-goal and had to be booted out by Judes, as we all held our breath! Thankfully, there wasn’t enough time for the drop out as the Referee blew to bring the game to a close, with a great 6-12 win to Judes.

Another great victory for our boys today and a fantastic first half with excellent completion. We let our levels drop second half, but was only to be expected in those conditions. Happy to walk away with the points today and get showered!! Well played lads!

Today’s Man of the match chosen by Leigh Miners, went to Reagan Sumner, who had to cover the fullback roll today. Had a solid performance at the back and got himself a try to, loves nothing more than scoring a try our Reggie.

Leigh Miners v Wigan St.Judes

Today Judes traveled to Leigh on this very wet Sunday morning, handling was going to be key today .
Judes started a little with a little hesitation and turned over possession close to their line but defended it very well . The game was a little end to end for a while as both teams sized each other up but Leigh were the 1st to crack .
Handling errors from both sides caused issues for both teams but today Judes handled them better , not losing their heads and trusting in each other to get the ball back and play their game.
2nd half much of the same , Leigh never gave up and pressured the Judes defence hard on the line a good few times but the line stood firm. Judes were in no mood to let Leigh score today and Judes kept the score card clean .

Today Wigan st Jude’s maroons u8 travelled across to leigh miners on a wet morning were the pitch was very bogger but the Jude’s boys started off bright with Liam wood taking the ball to the line and dumming and going through to score a great try then followed by some outstanding defence Oliver Williams started the Jude’s attack again putting Joel deacon through a massive hole in the leigh wall to go through for his first but then it was Leigh’s turn to attack the st judes defence but strong defence from Jake Critchley and Lewis baker followed by George Stuart Meallan Ward who made tackle after tackle turn over Jude’s ball were Liam wood again directed traffic sending meallan ward through to score his first with Lewis baker joining the scoring smashing his way over the line to get on the score sheet. The next quarter and three drives from Lewis baker Louie Skellon dan Williams and George set up Jake Critchley to break the leigh defence and go over the white wash and put st judes 20 points in front before leigh hit back with some outstanding rugby and getting over the white wash in the corner but judes hit straight back with some great hands from Louie Skellon to Liam and then to Oliver Williams who went straight through to score a great individual try before leigh hit back to score again but judes would not lie down with a great drive from George Stuart Arron barker and Freddie Selby set up Joel deacon to go over for a second and it came down to the last quarter were the leigh miners speed man went down the wing but some great cover tackle from meallan ward who chased him back and tackled him just before the line outstanding from meallan but then lighting to strike twice the leigh man again broke down the wing before George Stuart chased him all the way to line and making the tackle that dislodged the ball to save a try.
