Match Reports - 30th October 2016

Under 10's

Wigan St Judes 12-40 Halton Farnworth Hornets

Halton were once again our last game of the season opponents.

Judes boys have had a long, injury plagued season and today's team was no exception.

The boys quickly went behind in the first half and then fell further behind to two more tries, the lads looked tired and had no response to the Halton strong defensive line in this half and at the break it was Halton who lead 0 - 16.

In the second half the boys were on the back foot from the start and conceded the first try before Judes worked the ball out to left and Lewis Banks nipped back inside to get some points on the board for Judes.  Halton came back to score two easy tries as the boys once again failed to man mark and a scrambling defence was caught out. A quick bit of thinking saw Lewis Banks go over from close range.  After defending their line for 18 tackles the boys were undone for the last time and at the end it was Haltons game at 40-12.

We told the boys this was going to be a transition season which would see us beaten but these are the lessons we must learn for the next season.  It is vitally important that attendance at training over the winter season is consistent if we are to progress as a team.

Team 1 - St Judes 11, Halton Hornets  4

Team 2 - St Judes 9, Halton Hornets 1

Wigan St Judes u7s had the pleasure of a home fixture today to see the season out, and hopefully do it in style!

Team 1

1st quarter

Ethan won the toss as captain today and choose to attack. Judes started brilliant with the 1st run from Luke being to strong for the Halton  defence scoring the 1st try. Judes defence started great with finley and Ethan putting in some great tackles holding Halton  on the set. The ball was in judes possession then Edwin powered through for he's try. Halton came at us again but judes stayed strong keeping them out again with Cody and Luke standing tall at the front not letting anyone past. Ball was with judes again they worked it right and left and Archie saw a gap and went for it to score judes 3rd. Defence of judes was on  fire keeping Holton out yet again. Next up it was man of match Finley who took the ball stepped in out then ran down the touchline to score. Finally Halton  found some space and scored the 1st try.

2nd quarter

Halton started with the ball and judes continued with that strong defence with Ethan making a try saving tackle. Judes with possession again making yards and Luke ran through scoring he's 2nd. Holton heads never dropped and continued to come at us, seeing  them score there 2nd. Next up it was Ethans turn dodging and weaving trying to find that gap then there it was Ethans try, judes was flying high with this performance and finley was outstanding on he's defence, tackle after tackle holding Halton  away from that try line. End of this quarter was near and Archie received the ball and ran on a arch towards the touchline and scored he's 2nd in the corner.

3rd quarter

This quarter was a bit quiet on trys with only 2 but some great defence on display from both sides, Halton scored 1st making that 3 for them. Then it was Luke up, everytime he touched the ball today there was point to add great determination and strong runs from him.

4th quarter

So this was the last 10 minutes of our season, I said lads let's finish in style. Halton scored a great try from there man of match. Then judes gave everything with finley flying all over the place in defence and attack scoring a outstanding try with them quick feet of he's. Next up it was Cody turn who had been there all game  with a great hand off to see him over the white wash. Finally it was up to gabe who had been very strong throughout the game putting in some good tackles and great yards, then the gap appeared for him scoring the the left corner.

Judes started the game off a little sleepy and an early score from Haltons No 7 seemed (as usual) to wake the lads up. From then on in it was generally a one way street.

Our attacking runs from all the lads were either making good yards or finding weak spots in defence to score. It was Mason who first cranked up the heat, leading by example with a really strong run to touch down in the corner. This paved the way for young Corfield to have a field-day with the Halton defence scoring a hat trick of tries over the course of the match. Spirits were high seeing Harrison and Ruben scoring, complemented by 2 great tries from Jack (I'm not bothered in the slightest if I hurt myself as long as I make the tackle) Myers. With Chiz and his trademark 'the sit down handoff' also added his second.

But as we know defence in RL is paramount and all the boys were outstanding! Jack W warmed up quite nicely throughout the course of the day putting in a shift in defence consistently displaying keen tackling and at one stage he tagged up with team mate Ellis as they managed to upset the apple cart and put off Halton's only real threat for the remainder of the game. Harrison made a lot of great tackles round the legs to thwart countless attacks. Aston and Ellis worked Tirelessly on the edges whilst Jack M, Chiz & Ruben 'one toe' Charnock put up a wall of Maroon and Gold in midfield. But it was Big Jack E that was most notable in midfield putting the biggest shift of his year, speeding off the line to crunch would be attackers, now I'm sure the opposing young lads must have thought 'oh dear' when the saw Jack heading towards them snorting like a man possessed.

All in all it was another great performance by a really talented team. But the cherry on top came when Haltons coach addressed the Judes lads after the game and told them that he has never come up against a team with defence so strong and focused, he continued to tell them how amazed he was that they worked for each other and more so how they lift each other when tackles are missed (which is rare)!

What a great testament and a fitting end to our very successful inaugural season!

Well done Every Judes u7s player, without each of you there is no Team!

Happy Dabbing boys and roll on to U8s in 2017
