WIGAN ST JUDES ARLFC - MATCH REPORT - ROUND UP

1st Team

St Jude's open age started their cup campaign with a resounding display of rugby to beat Dewsbury Celtic 62-14 away in Yorkshire. Jude's kept their opponents scoreless for the majority of the game with a dominant all round display. Prop Tom Owen stared the rout as early as the 6th minute crashing over by the posts, the result of a cracking 40/20 of Paul Pendlebury which set up the field position. This was quickly followed by hard working hooker Nathan Bevans outrageous dummy for a another try, both we're converted, from then on Jude's totally controlled the game. The Yorkshire men had difficulty bringing the ball out of their own quarter with fearless tackling from Oly Oladele, Keiron Gaskell, Dave Walls, Brett Taberner, Gavin Rodden and Nathan Bevan this laid the foundation for Jude's young backs to entertain the public with some great rugby and long range tries. Centre Connor Parkinson helped himself to a brace of tries one of which was his customary full length try. Throughout the game Jude's were able to punch holes through the Dewsbury defence and tries were coming at regular intervals. Nathan Bevan got his second when he darted past 3 players to go on a 30 meter run to the line. Olys try was much the same as Bevans when Oladele gratefully accepted a ball hitting a gap on halfway only to see nothing in front of him for a 40 meter run to the line , that must of hurt!. Half Backs Paul Pendlebury and Declan Parkinson were involved in everything good with Jude's attacks and it was Pendlebury who put loose forward  Gavin Rodden away to score the first of his two tries as he burst through would be tacklers. Scott Robinson had come on from the bench and he made an immediate impact with his pace off the mark and eye for an opening putting Joey Brady away to score. The Second half followed in much the same vein with Jude's playing up the hill but still in complete control. Darrion Ball throughout the game was always eager to take the Yorkshire men on and once again had a great game. Substitute Dave Fagan did well when he came on as Jude's grew in confidence. Winger Reece McNallys second first team game was probably his best yet this young man his getting better every time he puts jersey on, and for his efforts got the MoM Award and to cap that from a Jude's scrum late on a Dec Parkinson's  smart pass on the left side put Reece away to score a well-deserved try to round of a great contribution. Joey Brady completed the scoring for Jude's in the final minutes with a long range try on the left again with half the Dewsbury team chasing in vein.                                       Jude’s completion rate with the ball was much better this week, the first half was 71% and the second was 70%. Defensive sets were, first half 15 to defend let in 1 try, second half 15 to defend let in 2 tries. (all the tries were wide out).

Point scorers Tom Owen 1 try, Nathan Bevan 2 tries,, Connor Parkinson 2 tries, Oly Oladele 1 try, Gavin Rodden 2 tries, Joey Brady 2 tries, Reece McNally 1 try, Gareth Thomas 3 goals, Scott Robinson 5 goals, Robert Collier 1 goal.
