Sunday, 28 May 202312's - GoldsHeysham AtomsAway20-32We had a trip over to Heysham this morning, for the next round of the development cup.
Judes kicked off to Heysham, who collected the ball and ran straight through our defence scoring the opener of the day, conversion missed. Judes ran the ball up the field forcing Heysham behind their line for a goal line drop out. Judes collected the ball passing it to Tommy Shaw who powered his way over the line. Will Cobley with the conversion. Heysham responded with another try but no conversion. Time ticking to half time, Judes needed another score, amazing hands from some of the lads got the ball to Toby Hutchinson, Heysham couldn’t get him down as he got to the try line, the ball was ripped so a penalty was given, fast hands again got the ball out to the other side to Henlea Baynham who took himself over the try line, conversion missed. Heysham again broke through the line and scored with a conversion putting them in front. With seconds to go, Heysham knocked on right near Judes line, but there wasn’t enough time left to get the ball over the try line.
Half time: Heysham 14 – Judes 10.
A big team talk at half time saw the Judes boys start the second half with a better attitude to the game. Heysham kicked off, Ollie Caddick receiving the ball and driving it in, the best attacking set Judes played but the Heysham defence wouldn’t break, Judes kicked on the last straight into the arms of Heysham, who then ran a full length try with the conversion made. Judes came back fighting with another great set, seeing Will Cobley score a try, conversion missed. Judes now had players playing who had been knocked and bruised, Heysham took the points again, scoring and converting. The Judes lads now lagging in the heat pushed themselves to get back into the game, Alfie Webster had been side-lined for most of the first half with a knock to the elbow, put a shift in and pumped his legs over the try line, conversion made. But Heysham took it away scoring the last try of the game with the conversion to make more points.
Full time score: Heysham 32 – Judes 20.
A few battered, bruised and upset players at the end of the game, but you win some you lose some and today just wasn’t our day. We will learn from our mistakes and come back stronger.
Try scorers:
Henlea Baynham, Will Cobley, Tommy Shaw.
Conversions: Will Cobley 2/4.
Man of the match: Tommy Shaw
Top Tackler: Cameron Riley.
Sunday, 28 May 202316'sWest BowlingAway18-30The 16s travelled to the Horsfall Stadium for the National cup Semi final against a very good West Bowling side literally full of scholarship players, unsurprisingly the home team came out all guns blazing in the early exchanges and Judes were on the ropes.
A very efficient and clinical performance by West Bowling, a few costly errors made an already tough task that bit tougher and despite a 2nd half rally showing strengh in character and fighting to the end Judes fell just short losing 30-18.
One thing is sure these lads can hold their heads up high after what has been a fantastic cup run with plenty more to play for this season.
Try scorers - Bradley Birch, Keegan Allibone, Ethan Shelmerdine &Jaiden Drachenberg
Conversation Deecan Snape (1)
Man of the Match - Connor Roberts
