Sunday, 23 April 20239'sSt CuthbersAway17-11St Judes was away at St Cuthberts in what was a game for both attacks, with the game finishing 17-11 to Judes. Today's game was a try fest and a big shout to Charlie Learey scoring his first ever try in rugby and also a big shout to Matthew who also scored not 1 but 2 of his first ever tries.

Judes won the toss and chose to start with the ball. Carter set the tone of the game with the first try of the match with a jinking run after some solid drives from the lads. Judes next try was scored off the back of some good defence forcing the turnover. Big Charlie L bursting over the line for his first of many tries this season I'm sure! Next step up Matthew who then went over for his first of many tries this season also, Matthew finished off a superb running set from Judes, after big meter making runs from Kai and Charlie A. Judes had their confidence right up as Oscar threw a great dummy to send 2 Cuthberts players the wrong way and open a big gap to slide in and pop over for his try. Judes scored again with a great half length run from Kai and finished through Cooper with a trademark determined run, step and handoff to score his first of the day. Judes went on to score a 6th try without reply this time Oscar going over for his 2nd of the day, a quick look up to spot the gap and through like a dart to score. Judes had a small lapse in defence as Cuthy's went over for back to back tries. Judes replied through Josh Unsworth for his first try of the game with a powerful drive from close range. Judes finished the half strong with another try from Cooper, after some great play from the Charlies, Little Charlie passed to put Big Charlie through a gap to break the line and Cooper finished the play off with a close range try.

The second half was different to the first with the teams going almost try for try. Cuthberts started the scoring with a try straight from the restart. Josh replied immediately with his 2nd try, another close range powerful effort. Cuthberts got their try after a lapse in concentration and went the full length of the field. Joe finally got his try against his old club after Judes had camped down Cuthberts line for a couple of sets. After a Cuthberts try, Oscar scored his hat trick try with the first drive straight through the middle after the restart. There were another couple of Cuthys tries after some good running. Judes with a comfortable lead tried something different going forward, Billy talking to the lads to set up and organise a passing attacking play which worked as Josh was tackled just short of the line, and the next run it was finished by Joe for his 2nd. Judes scored again after a great run from Charlie A to get the lads up the pitch and off the back of it, Joe gave a great offload to send Josh over for his hat trick try. Next Judes try was Cooper's hat trick try, Cooper ran through and went half length of the field to score his 3rd. Cuthberts scored again but Judes replied through Carter who slalomed his way to the corner and gave a 'Chris Ashton' Signature swan dive to get his 2nd. Joe also managed to bag a hat trick off the back off a superb angled run from Billy going from right side of pitch to left to be tackled just short of the line. After another Cuthberts try, Judes put on the best play of the game going full length in 1 play with a pass from Josh to Joe, Joe to Cooper, Cooper to Matthew, and finished off by Matthew to Score his 2nd.

Sunday, 23 April 202318'sLatchford GiantsHome56-6Our game today was the next round of the Lancashire Cup and against another team who we hadn’t played before and didn’t know what to expect. Thankfully it was smiles all round at the end of the game, with our best attacking game of the season so far.

Judes start brightly, on the very first set we are over the line by spreading the ball to Ethan who used his speed to score near the sticks. We continued our attack when Brogan ran with purpose and was determined to score his hattrick, which he banged out one after another! It was like watching the same try in triplicate as he showed his strength at the line, ripped the defence apart and steamed over the whitewash to score his first senior hattrick. Oliver produced a great one on one ball steal close to the Latchford line and this set us up for our next try when Jack G, who’d had a hand in or other tries, jinked in the line on the opposite side and forced his way over the line with defenders still round him, converted to 6 by Rohan. Judes restart and again Jack breaks the line and off-loads to Walshy who dived over in the corner. Latchford have the last say of the first half by going over when Judes have a small lapse in defence, ending a very strong attacking half for Judes 32-6 with some great conversions from Roman and his new boots!

Judes start the second half with a couple of errors and Latchford attack our line, but good Judes defence deny them going over. Sam creates the platform for our next try with great yards and the ball is played to Reece who breaks the line and crashes over for a well deserved try. We were soon heading for the line again with quick hands out to Walshy who showed fantastic speed and flicking off defenders made it all the way to the line to score a good individual effort for his second. Judes attack was relentless today and every player ran hard and played a part in scoring. Sam was the next to get rewarded with a try after another good passing play saw him bounce over the try-line. Judes were forced to drop out and Roman put in a superb shallow kick that Latchford couldn’t handle. Calum put in a beast of a run and started and ended the move over the whitewash when Roman put the ball up, which he does perfectly to his Captain to take on the fly and score. Oliver performed a second cheeky ball steal, which put us on the attack again and Roman kicks through for Walshy to chase, he got to the ball first and grounded it, sadly the ref pulled him for in-touch, or that would have been his hattrick to. Roman nailed all his conversions second half and was particularly amazing from the touch-line, those new boots definitely earned him the Man of the Match award today, he fully controlled the game at 7 and had a hand in most of our tries.

A very strong 56-6 win today where every player played his part in the game and in the 10 tries scored. Our tries showed great timing, quick hands and good ball movement, proving what an amazing squad we have. Although Roman got our opposition Man of the Match, the coaches also awarded Oliver with Coaches Man of the Match for his outstanding efforts in the game. Well done lads, fantastic performance and great to be in the next round of the Cup.
