1st Team

The final score line of a 36-18 loss for St Jude's doesn't really give a true reflection of this RFL Challenge Trophy Cup game as Jude's gave a good account of themselves for most of this game against Premier opponents West Hull in very hot conditions at the Meadow. It was Judes who opened the scoring in the first minute with their attack when Rob Collier, Rob Fenney and Gavin Rodden found Joey Brady who sprinted away to score a great try, Rob Collier slotted over the two. St Jude's looked good on Defence Oly Oladele, Tom Owen, Conal Bevan, Jason Holland, Luke Barrett and Gavin Rodden all looked solid and could handle anything West Hull could throw at them but West Hulls try was full of luck when a grubber kick bounced kindly for the runner to score under the posts. St Jude's first half performance was very encouraging with good shape and line speed and a very aggressive defence and with the ball looked sharp with Rob Fenney, Rob Collier and Baz Rothwell heavily involved in everything good.Full Back Nathan Jones once again had a top game taking the ball up when called upon for some hard yards as West Hull turned the screw and the half time score of 12-8 to the visitors was ok to accept. In searing hot conditions you had to feel for all the players but with a great Medical Support team and water carriers  going on at regular intervals the players were well looked after. On 55 mins Gavin Roddens try was a cracker when he hit the line and broke free to go in wide out. As the game went on you felt that every mistake by Jude's was being punished by a well organised West Hull team. Jude's final try was a blinder when from another sweeping attack Gavin Roddens neat grubber kick through for winger Darrion Ball who shot in wide out to score, Rob Collier obliged with the boot from the touch line. Overall the coaching staff would be pleased with most of this performance against NCL Premier opponents and there is lots to build on this.

Thatto Heath 18-31 St Judes

A superb all round team performance saw St Judes earn an excellent 31-18 away win at Thatto Heath in NWC Premiership clash.

St Judes were almost faultless in the first half of the game, dominating possession with a series of damaging attacks, with half backs Connor Ramsdale & Jack Mills marshalling the troops superbly around the field.

First half tries came from Ramsdale, Mills & Lewis Belshaw, and would see St Jude's take a commanding 18-6 lead into the break.

The second half began much the same has the first, with St Judes in complete control although the hot conditions did eventually begin to take its toll on the 14 man st Judes side, and would ultimately lead to the home side scoring twice. However the Wigan side amazingly did summon up the energy, digging deep to regain control and went on to seal the game with further tries from Harry Leigh, and Brandon Corfield. Jack Mills was in great form with the boot knocking over 5 conversions, with Ramsdale adding a drop goal.

Final score 18-31 to St Judes in an excellent team performance.

Best for Judes were Man of the Match George Witter, Connor Ramsdale, Saul Mills & Harry Adamson.

Latchford Giants 24-4 Wigan St Judes

On a very hot morning in Warrington the boys took on Latchford.

Although the boys played with all the possession and territory, they just couldn't turn it into points.  It was 3 breakaway tries that gave Latchford a 16-0 lead, despite great efforts from all the boys they were unable to cross with some stand out performances from Alex Birch and a returning Cayden Barry to help to keep them from scoring even more.

The second half saw more of the same and again it was Latchford getting over the line, some wrong decisions near the line cost us dear, not using over laps or passing to the side that was over loaded and not going blind, passing and knocking on on the 1st/2nd drives near our own line.  The Boys did get over the line from Rohan Green going in at the corner.

Saying all that and despite the scoreline, the team are playing as a team and starting to build up their morale again. They never let their heads drop or placed blame on other players. The results will come back soon so keep going lads!

Leigh miners 24 -24 Wigan st Jude's

Fair result for both teams

I would like to start off by saying a huge well done to every boy today that put on their boots and kit to play in the scorching heat!

Jude's started out strong with some fantastic defence after captain of the day jack Myers decided to defend first

Up stepped the tackle tag team Myers and oakesey only having 1 try conceded in the 1st quarter,

we also saw some great tries from Myers, charnock, bailey and hilly in this quarter

The boys were in for a shock when miners started the 2nd quarter with some of their secret weapons, the boys got close with some great runs and yards gained from mills, smith and wakelin but the miners defence was unbreakable!

Some outstanding try saving tackles came from Casey, charnock and hilly today

It was  when big jack returned to the field we saw the clash of the titans with their no 12 none of them would give in running at each other to see who could break each other's defence but it was big jack which saw him go over for his 1st this is when the boys got together as a team and dug deep to put their bodies on the line.. the game finished seeing big jack fly down the wing to go over the whitewash for what should have been his hat trick but was unfortunately disallowed, great teamwork today boys!

Leigh Miners coaches and parents have said that it was a fantastic game to watch and it was a pleasure hosting us st Judes golds
