Judes made the trip to Bury looking to back up last week's win against Chorley. The lads chose to play uphill first half and it was a decision that looked to have paid off. The lads were patient and waited for their opportunities. TJ made solid runs upfield, Leon tackled like a machine and Jake was controlling every play. The time came for Rio to make a jinking run and then barge oer by the posts to get the games first score, converted by Leon. With a lead to defend the lads started to play with more purpose and a sweeping move to the right with the ball going through the hands ended with Liam going over and Leon converting, taking the score to 12-0. That's how the first half ended. At the start of the second half he rain started to fall and conditions got slippy, but we had the hill to use. Unfortunately handling errors started to creep in and Bury managed to get themselves back in the game. At 12 all the game was finely poised and the lads were battling for field position. Then with 4 minutes left, up steps Leon to calmly slot over a rop goal and put us back in the lead. The next 4 minutes was about game control and the lads did really well in forcing errors and their hard work paid off. Another well deserved win, onwards and upwards to next week.

Tries - Rio Roberts and Liam Ryding
Converstions - Leon Trafford x 2
Drop Goals - Leon Trafford

One of the strangest rugby trips ever today. We organised a friendly over the Pennines at Huddersfield, but the closure of the M62 put paid to our team making kick-off. Thankfully they delayed the start, but we had to start the game with just 10 players and as each player arrived, they took the pitch, until we eventually fielded 13. As you can imagine, it made for a disorganised and shortened game.

With a scrum in Newsome’s half, it gave Judes the territory they needed to get some much needed points on the board whilst players were still arriving and Lewis Pinder who was filling in at Fullback, jinked into the line and dove over to score. Newsome put in a punishing kick off that ran dead and forced the drop out, but an incorrect play of the ball gave us the attack in our own half and we were soon challenging Newsome’s line, Reece darted for the line, but deemed held up, then Logan spied the gap and went for it, but resilient defence held us out, until we quickly spun the ball out to the right wing to Reagan Sumners hands who sped over in the corner, right on the stroke of half time.

Some lads had still not arrived, but at least we had a full complement of 13 for the second half, although we were missing our half back. Judes started off well in attack and a good run from Eliot and Reece, who broke through, but caught short of the line. Bad conditions also made handling difficult, with both teams spilling the ball. Logan pounced on a knock-on from Panthers and again Judes were in their half. A fantastic run from Reece Stanton, who had missed the start of the game, but had certainly tried everything he could to score points since arriving, saw him using his size and strength to break through and score at the side of the sticks. Our half back Callum Silcock was now available to take a successful conversion, giving us the win 0-14.

A horrendous journey and bit of a bizarre game, but Judes found the resilience to seal the win. I think the parents will still be having nightmares about that journey for days to come, but thank you to Newsome Panthers for their hospitality and we appreciate them waiting so long to get the game started. Well done boys for experiencing that today and still coming away with the win.

Today’s Award go to:

Outstanding Effort: Reece Stanton, missed the start of the game, but certainly ran strong and did everything he could to get on the score board.

Outstanding Effort: Ben Freeman, again a big game in defence, especially covering until players arrived.

Man of the Match: Eliot Peposhi, was the most vocal player on the pitch and the one who stuck to his structure. Ran hard andtackled hard today.

Wigan St Judes 30 V Orrell St James 0

The last time these teams met it was James that won by a narrow margin today was a completely different story.

The 1st half started with Judes up for it! and not long after the whistle Layton Cottom went over for his 1st try. Shortly after an improving Cody Newton scored his first try in 2 seasons. Lewis Banks crossed for Judes 3rd, with himself and Rohan Green converting them Judes had a commanding lead of 18 - 0. Just before the break Layton Cottom went over for his 2nd. .

Judes defence was just as good as their attack, with Max Jones and Scott Finney not letting anyone break through Judes line and Callum Siddeley and Jack Doran marshalling the wings, OSJ had limited options in attack and had to play mostly in their own half.

The 1st half ended with Judes leading 22-0.

The 2nd half was just as exciting as the 1st and Kian Stanton decided he wanted to make his mark on the match going over for Judes 5th and 6th. Full back James Molyneux did a great job organising the line and being in just the right place everytime James' had to kick, collecting the ball and returning it making good yards everytime. With Layton Cottom crossing for Judes 7th and 8th it ended a great morning for the boys at the meadow at 44 -0.

This was great rugby to watch only 1 knock on in the game, this shows how good the lads are and need to believe in themselves.

Well done boys!

Awards this week :-

Man of the Match - Layton Cottom

Parents Man of the Match - Cody Newton

Coaches Award - Scott Finney

Effort and Achievement - Kian Stanton.

Next week we are away to Cuthberts.

WATERHEAD AWAY
Today we travelled to Oldham to play our closest rivals in our group, Waterhead Warriors, a fantastic team who had only lost to us all year in the league. A big, physical side who always proved a test for us in our prior meetings this season.
After last week’s game at Miners, the lads were all fired up and ready to perform.
The game started with back to back fantastic defensive sets, both squads giving their all to resist the attack of their opponents. Great to watch two teams working hard to keep the tries out. Judes finally broke the deadlock with a hard drive from Forward Malachi Leo Price going over in the corner after using his pace to get around the defence, Oliver Wright sinking the kick.
This try was exactly what our lads needed and following it they played out of their skins to completely dominate the game. Our powerhouse centre, Elton Paplekaj followed with two fantastic tries, one fast scoot just yards from the line and another Elton special going straight through the middle fending off any defender that came close. The first converted by Austin Daniel, the second kick sailing just wide.
The final try of the half was extremely impressive. With Big Mal and Elton providing well-timed dummy runs the ball went out the back through multiple hands before Oliver Wright found the final pass to a supporting Dylan Gregory who crashed over the line in the right corner, converting the try himself to send us in at half time 22-0 to the good.
The parents were thrilled with the lads and, like us coaches, praised them for showing off their brilliant passing skill.
On a high from all of the half time praise, the lads restarted with another brilliant try. The ball going from wing to wing through Oliver, Austin and Dylan before the final fast pass hit Aaron Bolton out on the wing and over to start the second half in the best way possible. Converted by Tom Hill.
Fierce defence just gave Waterhead no chance of getting out of their own half for almost all of the match, our lads determined to pin them in for early turn overs and Oliver Wright’s kicking game causing absolute havoc for the entire 40 minutes. It wasn’t long before Judes were on the press again and quick thinking from ever-reliable winger, Aron Fleming, saw him scoot over for a well-earned try. Great to see him getting involved more and more each week.
Oliver Wright had taken a boot to the face during proceedings and, instead of putting him off this seemed to spur him on, he charged over for his first, weaving in and out of the defence before creating a perfect gap using a well-timed run from Mal Price and going through himself.
A few penalties saw Waterhead work up the pitch and a great kick from their full back caught Judes off guard, the line had bunched a little and left the wing wide open for Waterhead to go over unchallenged in the corner.
Irritated by this lapse in judgement, Judes hit back quickly from restart hitting big Mal Price who went the length of the field to score under the sticks. Freddie Winnard adding the extras.
Golden boots Oliver Wright finished the Judes scoring running like a prop forward onto the ball and literally going over the top of the awaiting defence to grab his second of the match. Converted by Malaki ‘Paddy’ Cullen.
We let the Warriors in for one final try again after some sloppy decisions in defence gaining them good yards. but their efforts could not be faulted, they played till the final whistle and were elated to go over again after what can only be described as a phenomenal performance by our boys.
Judes leaving Oldham with a well-deserved 48-12 win.
Our defensive game was unbelievable today. The lads were hitting hard and the line speed was what we have been waiting for. They were like a brick wall today letting nothing through at all, talking to each other throughout, winning the floor and producing devastating blows that were causing the opposition to lose the ball on impact.
Forwards Mal Price and Jake Hare causing all kinds of problems up the middle, Elton Paplekaj and Oliver Wright also uncontrollable in attack. Malachi and Elton really stepping up in defence and using sheer power and determination to produce hits that grown men would shy away from.
The support play was outstanding today with Aaron Bolton, Dylan Gregory and Ryan Sweatman following every play and producing fantastic passes. The wings were fearless in attack and defence with Malaki ‘Paddy’ Cullen, Tyler Foster, Freddie Winnard and Aron Fleming all linking up to produce some selfless passing and resisting the urge to go alone, really concentrating on creating the overlap and using it as much as possible.
Keegan Mobey, Oliver Wright and Tom Hill linked up perfectly once more to boss the game from the centre, talking throughout, showing great knowledge and producing well timed and effective plays for the entire match. Finally, Full back extraordinaire, Austin Daniel, doing his job with ease as always and organising the pack from the back.
Today was a true team performance and one of our favourites to date. A great game to send us into our first meet with an A group team next week!

Today Judes hosted Cuthberts at the Meadows on a damp Sunday morning.
Cuthberts kicked off and Judes ran the ball hard . Throwing it out to the wings and showing some great handling skills.
Cuthberts defence stood firm and kept the Judes attack out .
It went end to end for a couple of sets before Judes broke the line and scored .
Judes reset and defended well for a time but 1 lapse in concentration and some good ball work from Cuthberts saw them score but miss the conversion.
Judes had a word with themselves and took the ball hard to Cuthberts putting another 3 tries past them and converting every try .
Judes defence was on fire today and they kept a determined Cuthberts side at bay .
Great end to end stuff from start to finish from both sides but in the end Judes were to strong.

Hard day at the office today !!!

Captain for the day was chiz! The boys started off defending, both teams defence was on form in the first quarter with no try’s either way till the last minute when brook scored there first leaving us 4-0 down end of the first quarter.

2nd quarter! With hard runs and great tackles from the Jude’s boys there was just no holding out these blackbrook boys as they conceded another 2 try’s
12-0

3rd. Brook started with the ball and nocked on, there was plenty of passing from both teams. Our boys still couldn’t get over that line no matter how close they got, brook scored another 2 try’s.

4th quarter the Jude’s boys never hung there head and was still playing as if they was in it to win it but there was no changing this out come now. Brook was over the line again and this left them 24-0 there biggest loss yet.

As a team we need to re group draw a line under our last 3 losses and move forward the lads in training are doing awesome just not executing it on game day we will keep working with the lads keep your heads up
