Wigan St Jude’s traveled to Drighlington in the challenge cup round two on Saturday and came away with a 20-16  win in a very tough game in poor conditions. Judes started well when with the first attacking set they cut open  Drighlington so easy when Gavin Rodden found Connor Parkinson who broke away and  put Joey Brady in on the left, Danny Fallon slotted over the two points 6-0 to St Jude’s. On 30 minutes man of the match Gavin Rodden got Jude’s second try when he crashed over  near the line, Fallon goaled to make it 12 nil and Jude’s looked well in control at the turnaround. But things completely changed when Drighlington scored two tries early in the second half  in a 10 minute spell to draw level. On 60 minutes Gary McMahons neat kick payed dividends when he dropped on the loose ball to score and put Judes back into the lead Fallon extended the lead to 6 when he slotted over the two. Drighlington were still in this game and with time running out Danny Fallon slotted over a penalty to extend Judes lead to eight points but Drighlington never say die attitude was evident and their dangerous full-back scored a great try on 70 mins to put the game on a knife edge at 16-20 to Jude’s. The final minutes were very nervous especially when a speculative kick hit the crossbar and bounced back into play and  the home side scored under the posts only for the officials to call it offside, the correct decision, and Jude held on for this very tough win.

Man of the Match …..Gavin Rodden another top game.

Point scorers …Joey Brady …1try…Gavin Rodden ..1try…Gary McMahon.1 try. Danny Fallon 4 Goals.
