The final score line of a 36-18 loss for St Jude's doesn't really give a true reflection of this RFL Challenge Trophy Cup game as Jude's gave a good account of themselves for most of this game against Premier opponents West Hull in very hot conditions at the Meadow. It was Judes who opened the scoring in the first minute with their attack when Rob Collier, Rob Fenney and Gavin Rodden found Joey Brady who sprinted away to score a great try, Rob Collier slotted over the two. St Jude's looked good on Defence Oly Oladele, Tom Owen, Conal Bevan, Jason Holland, Luke Barrett and Gavin Rodden all looked solid and could handle anything West Hull could throw at them but West Hulls try was full of luck when a grubber kick bounced kindly for the runner to score under the posts. St Jude's first half performance was very encouraging with good shape and line speed and a very aggressive defence and with the ball looked sharp with Rob Fenney, Rob Collier and Baz Rothwell heavily involved in everything good.Full Back Nathan Jones once again had a top game taking the ball up when called upon for some hard yards as West Hull turned the screw and the half time score of 12-8 to the visitors was ok to accept. In searing hot conditions you had to feel for all the players but with a great Medical Support team and water carriers  going on at regular intervals the players were well looked after. On 55 mins Gavin Roddens try was a cracker when he hit the line and broke free to go in wide out. As the game went on you felt that every mistake by Jude's was being punished by a well organised West Hull team. Jude's final try was a blinder when from another sweeping attack Gavin Roddens neat grubber kick through for winger Darrion Ball who shot in wide out to score, Rob Collier obliged with the boot from the touch line. Overall the coaching staff would be pleased with most of this performance against NCL Premier opponents and there is lots to build on this.
