Leigh East

Sat 3 Jun 2017 | League | Home

The two week break wasn't a good thing for Judes as a well below par performance was nearly punished with a lively Leigh East  who were looking for a rare win and were in this game until the final quarter. The final score line of 26-8 was very flattering to Judes, but a win's a win as they say. The first half was a very tight affair with Leigh East getting plenty of field position due to Judes very poor discipline and the only go forward was from the boot of Rob Collier. Forwards Olumide Oladele, Paul Pendlebury, Tom Owen, Gavin Rodden and Nathan Bevan worked hard on the tough yards but Leigh East were well up for the game and with Jude's very generous with the penalties the 4-0 score line was probably a true reflection of the game. A small note on the first half was Judes had to defend 24 sets, 4 line drop outs, 2 Players held up over the line so only to be 4-0 down says a lot about Jude's defence. Jude's did start the second half better but it was Leigh who scored first ,of some indiscipline by Judes and Leigh now had a 8-0 lead. It was on 53 mins when Judes finally put it together when a swift attack with Collier,Rothwell and Pendlebury found Strong running Second Rower Gavin Rodden who scored wide out on the left. Minutes later Man of the Match Olumide Oladele crashed over from close range, Collier slotted over the two Jude's had took the lead and they were starting to click with their speedy attacks. Jude's next try was from a neat chip kick to winger Daz Ball who finished it off well. Leigh were starting to tier and Judes were growing in confidence, inter change forwards Luke Barrett, Kieron Gaskell.Tye Forde and Young Jason Holland did their bit when they they came on and centres Connor Parkinson and Adam Lavin along with Joey Brady And Nathan Jones were all eager to take the ball in and do the hard yards when needed. On 75 mins Baz Rothwell re gathered a loose pass from a rare Leigh attack to kick through and score a great try. Jude's final try was probably the best one when Baz Rothwell and Paul Pendlebury combined with some neat inter passing for Pendlebury to gratefully accept the try with a neat swan dive,Collier obliged with the boot and finished of 26 unanswered points in the second half. Jude's have 2 games in hand and this win was very important for the push up the league.
