| Judes progressed to the second round of the Challenge Cup with this hard fought victory at Stanningley of Leeds. The score doesn’t really reflect the game as the home side, who had a man dismissed in the twenty third minute, matched Judes in all departments apart from the finishing, mainly due to Judes sound defence. The visitors created about half a dozen chances and put away four, the first came on the half hour following a penalty by Dave Picton, a deft chip through by M.O.M. Dean Hunt was pounce on by Mark Whittaker but the goal was missed . After the turnround further pressure through an attack down the blind side resulted in Dean Hunt putting centre Steven King over in the corner. This sparked Stanningley into a purple patch and they camped in the visitors twenty for fifteen minutes but Judes scramble defence was solid, a stray pass was picked up by debutant Aaron Belshaw who sprinted fifty metres to cross Darry King added the extras, this seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side and it was all Judes from here on in, the final score came in the last five when another deft pass from Hunt put Steven King away down the left flank and he side stepped the full back to go under the sticks,King again converted, to round off a fine team performance. |
