WIGAN ST JUDES 12 - 64 WIDNES VIKINGS

Wigan St Judes made the trip over to the Stobart Stadium Halton to take on the Widnes Vikings for the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening. Shane Grady kicked off ball towards the away side for the Vikings to get the game under way. In the 5th minute Wigan St Judes got a penalty where they decided to take the two and kick to goal, but sadly the kick went wide and the score board was still clean.

Just after in the 7th minute Gavin Corfield made it through the Vikings defence and passed the ball out to Lee Maiden to go over the line, and a successful conversion put the away side up at 0-6.

In the 12th minute the home side Widnes Vikings’ got their try from Dave Allen who managed to dive over the line, but sadly Shane Grady missed the conversion to put the score at 4-6. Not long after in the 18th minute Viking’s Anthony Thackery went over the line after a goal line drop out, and with Shane Grady adding the extras this brought the score to 6-10.

In the 21st minute Lee Doran broke through the away deference and ran half the pitch to score the Widnes team a try and yet again with Shane Grady converter. Scott Yates jumped over the line in the corner for the Vikings to add more point to the board in the 26th minute; this put the score at 20-6.

Another try from the Widnes Vikings came when a kick was put in and the away side hit it back into the Vikings side, this got Dave Houghton a try under the kicks after a quick pass to him, Shane Grady had no challenge in producing another successful conversion to get the score at 26-6 in the 32nd minute.

Half Time (26-6)

Opening up the second half Shane Grady went in the corner for the Widnes Vikings to score his 102nd point for the club, sadly he kicked wide on his conversion to put the score at 30-6.

Wigan St Judes got a try from Darly King after a pass around back from his team mate; Dave Picton added the extras and put the score at 30-12.

In the 48th minute Danny Hulme went over for the home side, and with Shane Grady adding the extras once again put the score at 36-12. And in the the 55th minute Richard Varkulis went over for the Vikings, and an easy conversion from Shane Grady just under the sticks put the score at 42-12.

After strong team work the Vikings managed to make a break and run down over half the pitch for Danny Hulme to score under the sticks, and with Shane Grady adding the extras once again brought the Vikings to 48-12. In the 68th minute Richard Varkulis went over for the second time for the Vikings after finding space in the Wigan St Judes defence, this brought the score to 52-12.

Shortly after in the 72nd minute Dave Allen went through for the Widnes Vikings, and with Shane Grady adding the extras once again brought the score to 58-12. Thomas Coyle went sliding into the corner for the Vikings in the 55th minute, and with Shane Grady adding the extras put the score at 64-12.
